Spaying and neutering are routine procedures that can make life easier for your furry friend. Spay and neuter surgery prevents your pet from reproducing and it will lower their risk of developing certain cancers. Our veterinary care team is highly capable of performing both operations successfully.

What is spaying and neutering?

Spaying is a type of surgery that removes the female’s uterus and ovaries. The patient is placed under anesthesia and an incision is made on the abdomen to remove the organs. At the end of the procedure, your pet will no longer be able to reproduce.

Neutering is the male equivalent of spaying. Your male furry friend is placed under anesthesia and the testicles are removed. After the surgery your furry pal won’t be able to impregnate female pets.

Before both procedures we perform a full blood panel and other testing to ensure your pet is healthy. During the operation we closely monitor their vitals to prevent any complications and keep them safe.

Why is it important to spay or neuter my pet?

Spay and neuter surgery are mostly known for reducing your loyal companion’s ability to reproduce. Some other benefits of having the procedure are:

1. Eliminates bad behaviours such as humping, roaming, becoming aggressive with other animals or fighting.
2. Reduces the risk of ovarian, prostate and testicular cancers
3. Reducing stray populations in shelters
4. Limits bacterial infections and urinary tract disease

When should I have my pet spayed or neutered?

We typically recommend pets get spayed or neutered before they reach 6-months of age. Around this time is when most pets usually go through heat cycles and have the urge to reproduce. If you have an older pet they can still get the procedure done as long as they are in good health.
